Wednesday post series #7: what inspires me at the moment

This week it’s Magnus Osterhult’s photographs of model Besa Sand. I came across these months ago on the Trend Hunter blog and I just kind of filed them away in my blogging notes and forgot about them. These are amazing. I’m of the school of thought that the more exposed a photograph is (within reason), the better it is so these photos are right up my alley! These are inspirational because I have a photo-shoot on Monday that I’m going to try a few new things out at, so these are exactly how I want these photos to look.
The photographs themselves are perfectly composed, the model is bathed in light and complemented by the dominant white colour of it. There are also light leaks and lens flare in some photos, which, usually people would say are a defect but in these photographs, they add to the capture and overall composition of the photograph.

Tuesday post series #7: HTC One advertisement

This week I want to talk about something different from the usual “arty” videos; an advertisement. I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while but I keep forgetting. This is incredible, I absolutely love it. It’s an advertisement for the HTC One phone. The ad depicts a fashion shoot, conducted while falling from a plane. The shoot is done by a photography student, on the phone. The ad itself is shot very creatively, with other people (apart from the photographer, model and cameraman) free-falling with smoke canisters on their backs to emit plumes of smoke as they fall. This adds to the overall drama of the piece. The camera moves with the model, as she moves through the plane and jumps out and then seamlessly cuts to a wide shot of the photographer photographing and directing her. This ad would make me want to buy the phone, I suppose that’s the sign of a good advertisement, for maybe I was just hooked as soon as I heard “photography” (tell me what you think in the comments! :P).

Monday post series #7: photoshoots I’ve loved (Factory Fashion chanls Andy Warhol)

This week its Factory Fashion’s tribute to Andy Warhol. This is amazing. The models are carbon copies of the iconic star. The colourful backgrounds and key lighting emphasise the white wigs that all the models are wearing.

Friday post series #7: bucket list

This week on the bucket list series, post 5, it’s “get something pierced”. I already have eight ear piercings (and one tattoo, but that’s another story ;)). I got my lobes pierced first when I was 15 and then just went from there. I got my cartilage pierced on the top of my right ear and after a bad breakup I wanted a change so I pierced each lobe twice more. My boyfriend paid for my scaffold piercing for my 20th birthday (the first of my birthdays we were together). I’m currently stretching out (gauging) my innermost lobe piercings.
Anyway, on to the actual post… I want to get my nose pierced. I think everyone should get SOMETHING pierced at some stage, even if it’s just your lobes once, they look great and you can just take them out if you’re sick of them. I just think nose piercings look great, you can have a ring in them or a stud, which is more conservative. (I don’t think my mother would be very pleased with me though!).

Thursday post series #5:updates

I’ve just come back from consulting with Irish canoe slalom athlete, Aisling Conlan. We are now in pre-production for a documentary video we’re shooting with her next week. I’ve known Aisling since I was 14 so getting her to talk and give us what we want won’t be hard! We’re going to forgo the traditional route of most videos about kayakers and let her tell her story: she has a really interesting background and we want to showcase that. While she was growing up, things were hard, but she’s come through that to become who she is now. She’\s come through adversity and is now one of the top elite canoe slalomers in the world. And she’s totally humble about it to boot! We’re going to shoot some footage of her kayaking and then film an interview with her in her house so we can have some variety in the shots. We’re also going to shoot some photographs of her and a video portrait. So we can showcase her and showcase what we can do, that we’re not one-dimensional.
This should be great, we’re getting so many ideas for it already. The finished video itself will be on our Vimeo page within the next few weeks so I’ll let you know when it goes up!

This is incredible. It’s a time-lapse video put together entirely by shots taken by the astronauts on board the International Space Station. It shows the rotation of the earth and the stars from the window of the ISS and from a space shuttle.

This week it’s Michael Ostermann’s fashion illustrations. These are amazing, they are both disturbing (some models have their mouths sewn shut) and beautiful at the same time. The digital effects Ostermann used contrast with the model and give a surreal look to the photos. A crown of thrones in some photos point to a Christian theme.ImageImageImageImageImage

Thursday post series #4: personal updates

So this week in a nutshell: we got confirmation of our company registration paperwork having gotten to the right people so that’s epic. We finished editing an advertisement. We did a location recce for our next shoot. I broke two frames in work and had to re-hang nine photos… I met up with friends last night for dinner and got to see my boyfriend after a week

AND

MY BEST FRIEND IS HOME ON SATURDAY!
