Thursday post series #7: updates

Apologies for not posting yesterday, I don’t feel very inspired at the moment! I’ll be sure to write a post on what inspires me next week.
So, now on to the seventh post in this series. I’ve been so busy the last few weeks. This week has been quiet (thankfully). I got an interview date for a Photography course (it’s on the 29th) so I’ve tried to put together a portfolio for that, I’m going to get prints tomorrow so I’m nearly finished. I need to plan and shoot one more project and print it and I’ll be finished. Chai Media finished filming Aisling Conlan last week so we need to get editing on that soon! The photography studio where I’m interning asked us to film a promotional video for them so I wrote a proposal for that the other day, I need to edit it and see what they think.

Busyness is good :D

How has your week been?

PS: I followed back all my followers (that’s a mouthful!) to show my appreciation, thank you!

Tuesday post series #8: videos I’ve loved (Baldwin S/S13 Lookbook)

Not much to say about this really. It’s everything a fashion film / look-book film should be: edgy, focused on the models and clothes and color graded to perfection. Watch and be amazed

Thursday post series #6: updates

So this week has been hella busy, I’m interning two days a week at The Picture Rooms, learning about marketing, social media and studio photography. I was given media marketing notes from one of the girls who works there (her BA Journalism notes but they’re good for our business!). I need to read them and see if they’re going to be any good, hopefully they can help.
Tomorrow, we’re starting principal photography on our documentary with Aisling Conlan. We were supposed to shoot today but that fell through, we’re shooting tomorrow and Sunday instead. This campaign is going to be so good, I’m really excited to start filming and working on it. Aisling lives in one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country (her house is literally on the edge of cliff!) and that view to the fact that she is genuinely the most humble person I know and you’ve got yourself a good documentary interview!

Wednesday post series #7: what inspires me at the moment

This week it’s Magnus Osterhult’s photographs of model Besa Sand. I came across these months ago on the Trend Hunter blog and I just kind of filed them away in my blogging notes and forgot about them. These are amazing. I’m of the school of thought that the more exposed a photograph is (within reason), the better it is so these photos are right up my alley! These are inspirational because I have a photo-shoot on Monday that I’m going to try a few new things out at, so these are exactly how I want these photos to look.
The photographs themselves are perfectly composed, the model is bathed in light and complemented by the dominant white colour of it. There are also light leaks and lens flare in some photos, which, usually people would say are a defect but in these photographs, they add to the capture and overall composition of the photograph.

What do you think of these photos? Are they smutty or tasteful?

Wednesday post series #5: what inspires me at the moment

I know I’m a day behind, I was out for dinner last night and didn’t get home til late, I’ll be more diligent next week with posting on the day I’m supposed to! This week it’s “Two Of Us”, a photographic project by Fan Shi Shan. This is amazing, it’s a portrait series on people who grew up during China’s one-child policy. It is a comment on that policy and on what could have been. The photographs themselves are haunting as they could have been a reality, if the child had been born in another country.ImageImageImageImageImage

What do you think of this series? Is it a comment on China‘s policies or is too “out there” to suggest that the policy is backwards?

Friday post series #5: bucket list

This week its visit the Church and Dominican Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. I’ve been to Milan before and I absolutely loved it so this will be a welcome trip! This is the monastery where Leonardo Di Vinci painted The Last Supper. Definitely one to keep on the bucket list until I go!

Thursday post series #1: personal updates

Here’s the first of my Thursday posts: updates on everything that’s happened to me in the last few weeks. At the moment, I’m in the process of registering a business name for my new venture: Chai Media (partnership with my friend [and model for my studio shoot today] Chesney). We’re in pre-production for a couple of advertisements for my local Credit Union so that’s keeping us busy. Between that and my current internship at The Picture Rooms photography studio on Fridays and Saturdays, I’m pretty much busy all day every day! It’s good being busy though, I feel like I need to be out doing things every day so this is fueling that nicely!

I had a studio shoot with Chesney today, like I said, for my portfolio for college for next year. It went so well, we played around with low-key lighting and silver glitter for the day! I’ll post up the edited images next week. For now though, it’s sleep time for me!

Wednesday post series #1: what inspires me at the moment

Following on from yesterday’s post about series and the like, here is the first of my Wednesday posts. I’m shooting my friends Chesney and Conor in studio tomorrow so therefore this post is about what I’ve been looking at for ideas. I’ve been thinking a lot about low-key lighting and about how dramatic it can look. I love low-key lighting, how getting the shadows and light just right can either make or break a portrait. The following are photos I’ve been looking at for inspiration.

I’m probably gonna go more along the route of the last photo and add some glitter into the image aswell, just to see how it goes. I’ll post up some photos when they’re done!
