Tuesday post series #5: vidoes I’ve loved

This week its a short from Italian Vogue named “Rico The Bulls**t Dodger”. This is awesome. It’s short entirely in black and white, the model is dressed impeccably (obviously) and his face is painted like a Day of The Dead sugar skull. I think that adds to the piece as a whole, as it is completely out of the ordinary and so memorable. The Spanish mariachi band-style music that the model is dancing too adds to the piece also.

Friday post series #5: bucket list

This week its visit the Church and Dominican Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. I’ve been to Milan before and I absolutely loved it so this will be a welcome trip! This is the monastery where Leonardo Di Vinci painted The Last Supper. Definitely one to keep on the bucket list until I go!

Wednesday post series #4: what inspires me at the moment

Wednesday post series #4: what inspires me at the moment

This week is stop-motion photography. I’m looking to do a stop-motion photography project before the end of the summer so I’m looking up different things. This video I found on Laughing Squid is pretty epic. The movement in the video doesn’t have that “jerky” feel that stop-motion photography usually has, the movement’s are all fluid and blend well together.

Tuesday post series #4: vidoes I’ve loved

This incredible. It’s a time-lapse of European cities. It’s shot so well, there’s no flicker between shots, the transitions are smooth. Plus it’s shot with the camera I own, so it’s amazing to see what could be done with it!

Monday post series #4: photoshoots I’ve loved

This week it’s “Shelving the Body” by Darragh Casey. This is really interesting, it’s a different take on the “I’ll photograph my family with their possessions” kind of shoot. The composition is great, it doesn’t take away from any part of the photo and each object is given equal weight and prominence in the photograph. This is an inspiration-type post for me, too as I’m looking to start an archive project but I need ideas on what to do.ImageImage

Friday post series: #4: bucket list

So this week it’s “Bake 10 types of cupcakes“. I’ve never even baked ONE type so this will be hard! The last time I tried to bake cupcakes, they turned out horribly wrong.

So here’s the list:

1. Vanilla

2. Chocolate

3. Peanut butter (yes, that’s a thing ;))

4. Strawberry

5. Red Velvet

6. Pumpkin (really want to try this!)

7. Banana

8. Mocha / coffee

9. Tiramisu

10. Lemon

Thursday post series #3: personal updates

Well, as you may have guessed, I’m in the middle of setting up a production company with my friend Chesney (Chai Media, the link to our Facebook page is in the sidebar, please oblige us and like us!). We’re in the middle of shooting an ad at the moment so when it’s edited, we’re going to join Vimeo and that’s where all our videos will go. (I’ll probably link that in the sidebar too, later).

I have so many conceptual photo shoot ideas in my head… I need a willing model… and time, lots of time…

I’m thinking of changing the name of this blog too… to something that better expresses what I’m working in now… I need to have a thinking session!

Wednesday post series: #3: what inspires me at the moment

This week it’s the website You Are Not A Photographer.
This isn’t so much an “inspiration” post as a “review” post. This site is AMAZING. As a photographer myself, I obviously find this hilarious but for other people it’d be hilarious too.
It’s a blog-style website, probably made with WordPress ;), it looks a little like a Tumblog (is that what you say? I don’t know, I don’t use Tumblr). People submit photographs by people who think they’re photographers but so obviously aren’t, like people who post every photo they ever take into a “Photography” album on Facebook.
Examples of awful photography include: a baby shoot, with the baby beside a food mixer, on a kitchen counter (sounds OK so far right? Wait for it…), beside this baby is a second baby… in the BOWL of the food mixer! What kind of vibe is this “Photographer” (the caption on the photo is “[Someone] Photography LLC”, who gave this person a licence?!) trying to convey? Cue dead baby jokes.
In short, this website is a goldmine on what NOT to do when photographing. One for the bookmarks, for sure.

Also, excuse the lateness of this post, my internet was down all day yesterday :(

Monday post series #3: photoshoots I’ve loved

This week it’s Roman Gorchakov’s images of Ekaterina for Touchpuppet. I loved this shoot. The colours are amazing, they colourful clothes are complimented by the yellow cast dominant in most of the photos. The lighting suggests a dreamy quality to the images and compliments the model.ImageImage
