Monday post series #8: photoshoots I’ve loved
Apologies for not posting on Friday. I was mega busy filming and I didn’t have a chance to sit down and write a post. Anyway, without further ado, here’s the eighth post in the “Photo shoots I’ve loved” series (can’t believe I’ve done this for two months already…). This week it’s “Calla Lily” by JP Terlizzi. This is a fine art photography series on a lily (obviously ;)) and it’s amazing. The photographs are lit by a single flash unit and are in black and white. They depict one single lily in a new, fresh, unfamiliar way.

Tuesday post series #7: HTC One advertisement

This week I want to talk about something different from the usual “arty” videos; an advertisement. I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while but I keep forgetting. This is incredible, I absolutely love it. It’s an advertisement for the HTC One phone. The ad depicts a fashion shoot, conducted while falling from a plane. The shoot is done by a photography student, on the phone. The ad itself is shot very creatively, with other people (apart from the photographer, model and cameraman) free-falling with smoke canisters on their backs to emit plumes of smoke as they fall. This adds to the overall drama of the piece. The camera moves with the model, as she moves through the plane and jumps out and then seamlessly cuts to a wide shot of the photographer photographing and directing her. This ad would make me want to buy the phone, I suppose that’s the sign of a good advertisement, for maybe I was just hooked as soon as I heard “photography” (tell me what you think in the comments! :P).

Monday post series #7: photoshoots I’ve loved (Factory Fashion chanls Andy Warhol)
This week its Factory Fashion’s tribute to Andy Warhol. This is amazing. The models are carbon copies of the iconic star. The colourful backgrounds and key lighting emphasise the white wigs that all the models are wearing.

Wednesday post series: #6: what inspires me at the moment
Chai Media are filming our friend whose a kayak-er next week so I’ve looked up videos for inspiration. This one is particularly amazing!
Tuesday post series #6: videos I’ve loved
This is incredible. It’s a time-lapse video put together entirely by shots taken by the astronauts on board the International Space Station. It shows the rotation of the earth and the stars from the window of the ISS and from a space shuttle.
Monday post series #6: photoshoots I’ve loved
This week it’s Michael Ostermann’s fashion illustrations. These are amazing, they are both disturbing (some models have their mouths sewn shut) and beautiful at the same time. The digital effects Ostermann used contrast with the model and give a surreal look to the photos. A crown of thrones in some photos point to a Christian theme.

Tuesday post series #4: vidoes I’ve loved
This incredible. It’s a time-lapse of European cities. It’s shot so well, there’s no flicker between shots, the transitions are smooth. Plus it’s shot with the camera I own, so it’s amazing to see what could be done with it!
Monday post series #4: photoshoots I’ve loved
This week it’s “Shelving the Body” by Darragh Casey. This is really interesting, it’s a different take on the “I’ll photograph my family with their possessions” kind of shoot. The composition is great, it doesn’t take away from any part of the photo and each object is given equal weight and prominence in the photograph. This is an inspiration-type post for me, too as I’m looking to start an archive project but I need ideas on what to do.
Tuesday post series #3: vidoes I’ve loved
This week it’s “Much Better Now”. This is incredible, it’s a mixed-media short film about a bookmark who falls out of his book and goes on an amazing adventure! The character itself is quite likable, I think and the narrative is solid and runs through the whole video.
