Thursday post series #3: personal updates

Well, as you may have guessed, I’m in the middle of setting up a production company with my friend Chesney (Chai Media, the link to our Facebook page is in the sidebar, please oblige us and like us!). We’re in the middle of shooting an ad at the moment so when it’s edited, we’re going to join Vimeo and that’s where all our videos will go. (I’ll probably link that in the sidebar too, later).

I have so many conceptual photo shoot ideas in my head… I need a willing model… and time, lots of time…

I’m thinking of changing the name of this blog too… to something that better expresses what I’m working in now… I need to have a thinking session!

Wednesday post series: #3: what inspires me at the moment

This week it’s the website You Are Not A Photographer.
This isn’t so much an “inspiration” post as a “review” post. This site is AMAZING. As a photographer myself, I obviously find this hilarious but for other people it’d be hilarious too.
It’s a blog-style website, probably made with WordPress ;), it looks a little like a Tumblog (is that what you say? I don’t know, I don’t use Tumblr). People submit photographs by people who think they’re photographers but so obviously aren’t, like people who post every photo they ever take into a “Photography” album on Facebook.
Examples of awful photography include: a baby shoot, with the baby beside a food mixer, on a kitchen counter (sounds OK so far right? Wait for it…), beside this baby is a second baby… in the BOWL of the food mixer! What kind of vibe is this “Photographer” (the caption on the photo is “[Someone] Photography LLC”, who gave this person a licence?!) trying to convey? Cue dead baby jokes.
In short, this website is a goldmine on what NOT to do when photographing. One for the bookmarks, for sure.

Also, excuse the lateness of this post, my internet was down all day yesterday :(

Monday post series #3: photoshoots I’ve loved

This week it’s Roman Gorchakov’s images of Ekaterina for Touchpuppet. I loved this shoot. The colours are amazing, they colourful clothes are complimented by the yellow cast dominant in most of the photos. The lighting suggests a dreamy quality to the images and compliments the model.ImageImage

Friday post series #3: bucket list

So the third thing on my bucket list is “build a bookcase”. I love having things that I can say I’ve made myself and bookcase really seems like the perfect thing: it’s something I’ve made myself and it holds books (something I’m obsessed with).

Judging by my lack of handyman skills this will take FOREVER to actually come to fruition so for now here’s some pretty bookcases to give me some inspiration.

Thursday post series #2: personal updates

This week has been kind of slow for everything, really. I haven’t seen my boyfriend since last week (silly repeat work :( ), I’ve only worked at the Picture Rooms for one day (today, I’m working again tomorrow) and I’ve not done any work with Chai at all.

I made my friend Jenny a zine for her birthday, with photos and quotes and that. I’m assisting on a fashion soot next Monday so I’ll post about that next week. Hopefully going to a couple of the PhotoIreland exhibitions on Saturday too.

Boring week.

Wednesday post series #2: what inspires me at the moment

I’m currently in pre-production for a couple of advertisements for my local Credit Union (with Chai Media, obviously ;)) so I’ve been looking at their other ads for some inspiration. None of them are very inspiring, seeing as we want to take a different stance on this and do something completely out of the ordinary. Therefore I’ve been inspired by the following:

Sony Bravia TV ad (2006)

Monday post series #2: photoshoots I’ve loved

Here’s the second installment of my Monday post series: photoshoots I’ve loved.

This series is by Txema Yeste for Numero China April 2012 issue. This is amazing. The images are quite avant-garde and are dark and Gothic but are colourful and sensual at the same time. The images have quite an experimental feel to them, which is probably why I love them so much.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Friday post series #2: bucket list

I’ve had an uber busy weekend, from working to seeing the new exhibition in the Gallery of Photography to hanging my own photographs in a group exhibition so I’ve only got time to post about this series now. I’m sitting in my room, listening to the rain batter the window outside so I thought I might as well post this now. So sorry about it being a couple of days late!

#2: Celebrate folk traditions by attending Feile Iorras

Feile Iorras is an annual international folk festival held in Dublin in July.

“One of the main aims in setting up the Feile was to promote integration and understanding between the people of Erris and various communities throughout the world. This is done by inviting groups from around the world to take part in the festival and to maximize contact between the groups and the people of Erris during the Feile.”

Here are a few photos from last year’s festival:
