Two weeks ago in college, we got to link up with the Fashion Design students and photograph them in the studio. Here are some photos from the day. They’re not my best as I’m only getting properly into studio portraiture now but I’ll post up more photographs as they come! Hope you enjoy.

Hello again, I’m back to continue my series on inspiring and incredible images. This one is “Beauty School Drop-out” by Michael David Adams. The images are gaudy, with candy-couloured hair and strong makeup. This is reminiscent of Charlotte Free or even Helena Bonham-Carter in some images. The tight crop of most of the images adds to the overall composition, making you really look at the model’s hair and makeup.

Apologies for the lack of regular posts…. I’ve been sick and my iMac hasn’t been working properly. I called AppleCare today though, and wiped the hard drive so hopefully that will fix it and I’ll be back to regularly posting. So, now we’re on to the twelfth post in the “photoshoots I’ve loved” series. This week it’s Andoni and Arantxa’s images of Natalia Siodmiak for Elle Ukraine, April 2012. These are gorgeous photos. The editing almost makes them look like film photos and the simple design and sets just add to the overall look and feel of the photos. (Not much else to say, really!)

This week on my tenth “photo shoots I’ve loved” post, I’m going to focus on a fashion story shot by Eric Guillemain for Numéro Tokyo May 2012 featuring the pink-haired beauty, Charlotte Free. The shoot is tough but girly and soft-focused at the same time, it emphasises a heavily adorned wardrobe and pink and white are the dominant colours, contrasting and offsetting the gurney, tough pose and makeup.

This week on the “Photo-shoots I’ve loved” series is “Wahkan, An Other Afghanistan” shot by French photographers Fabrice Najari and Cedric Houin. This is a series concentrating on Wahkan, a province in Afghanistan. The photographers first photographed their subjects with Impossible Project instant film and then handed them the Polaroid to photograph them again. The photographs of the subjects themselves are in black and white, while the Polaroid is in color. This emphasizes the photograph and, I think, the fact that most of these people have never been photographed before, or have even seen a camera. Adding to this is the fact that in some photos, the subjects are looking away or hiding their faces as though embarrassed or afraid, others stare straight into the lens determinedly.
What do you think of these images? Is it fair that some subjects look physically uncomfortable having their photograph taken and the photographers proceeded with it anyway?

Apologies for not posting on Friday. I was mega busy filming and I didn’t have a chance to sit down and write a post. Anyway, without further ado, here’s the eighth post in the “Photo shoots I’ve loved” series (can’t believe I’ve done this for two months already…). This week it’s “Calla Lily” by JP Terlizzi. This is a fine art photography series on a lily (obviously ;)) and it’s amazing. The photographs are lit by a single flash unit and are in black and white. They depict one single lily in a new, fresh, unfamiliar way.

This week it’s “Shelving the Body” by Darragh Casey. This is really interesting, it’s a different take on the “I’ll photograph my family with their possessions” kind of shoot. The composition is great, it doesn’t take away from any part of the photo and each object is given equal weight and prominence in the photograph. This is an inspiration-type post for me, too as I’m looking to start an archive project but I need ideas on what to do.
Well, as you may have guessed, I’m in the middle of setting up a production company with my friend Chesney (Chai Media, the link to our Facebook page is in the sidebar, please oblige us and like us!). We’re in the middle of shooting an ad at the moment so when it’s edited, we’re going to join Vimeo and that’s where all our videos will go. (I’ll probably link that in the sidebar too, later).
I have so many conceptual photo shoot ideas in my head… I need a willing model… and time, lots of time…
I’m thinking of changing the name of this blog too… to something that better expresses what I’m working in now… I need to have a thinking session!
This week it’s Roman Gorchakov’s images of Ekaterina for Touchpuppet. I loved this shoot. The colours are amazing, they colourful clothes are complimented by the yellow cast dominant in most of the photos. The lighting suggests a dreamy quality to the images and compliments the model.
